A Success Painting

"Goals paint a picture of what success looks like, and it's important to step back and examine what we really want to achieve in a healthy life-style."

- Susan Bowerman, M.S., RD, CSSD, SOWM, FAND

The Same, Yet Different

Our lifestyle choices, including what we eat, how much water we drink, how much physical activity we get and even how many restful hours of sleep we have each night influences our health, energy levels and overall well-being.

We might all have the same overall health and wellness goals, yet we are all different in the approach needed to achieve the specific area of wellness we want to achieve.

A Step Back

It's important to step back and evaluate what we really need and want to achieve for our personal well-being. A simple 'Wellness' profile or evaluation can help define these 'goals'.

Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound.
Goal setting paints a picture of success.

A Wellness Evaluation is simply a tool. it helps assess where one currently stands in terms of nutrition, exercise and lifestyle. A 'Wellness Coach' uses the education, tools and training provided by nutrition and health experts to help their customer in this self-evaluation.

In this process, maintaining the initial profile is important. This establishes a baseline, allows one to track their progress and is the basic starting point in a wellness journey.

One-on-One Coaching

A wellness evaluation encourages openness and honesty. This establishes a relationship built on trust and allows the coach to personalize a program that best suits their customer's individual needs.

The goal might be weight-loss, muscle gain, more energy or even more specific goals related to age or lifestyle. Whatever the specific goal(s) is the Wellness Coach will help one to adopt habits allowing for a healthier and more active life-style.

Some common questions to expect in a wellness assessment:

  • What are your health or fitness goals? (i.e.lose weight, gain muscle, more energy)

  • How much water do you drink in a day?

  • How much sleep do you typically get?

  • Do you eat breakfast? How many meals do you eat daily?

  • What do you typically eat for dinner or lunch?

  • What have you done in the past to achieve your wellness goals?

  • What hasn't worked for you?

  • Why do you think it has been difficult for you to achieve your goals?

  • On a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being very ready, how ready are you to make changes in your diet and lifestyle?

Setting goals for a healthy life.
