Wake up, fill your heart and mind with gratitude and your body with the right foods and you will 'Shine All Day'.
Top Off The Tank
When you wake up in the morning you've gone a number of hours without eating. It's time to break-the-fast.
Your body has been tapping into it's stored fuel to keep all your systems running. It's time to 'top off your tank' to ensure you have the mental and physical energy you need to get through your day.
Does it matter what we top off our tank with? Let's take a look at what happens to our blood sugar levels based on what, if anything, we eat.
Carbs-Based Breakfast
Simple refined carbohydrates such as cereals, toast, white breads cause an immediate surge of blood sugar levels resulting in the emission of insulin.
The insulin, in turn, removes sugar from blood turning the excess into fat. This results in decreased blood sugar levels and a desire for more of the same carbs.
This cycle then repeats itself 2-3 more times a day. This continuous cycle is one of the major causes of diabetes, high blood pressure and weight gain.
Skipping Breakfast
When you skip breakfast your blood sugar levels drop below a normal level and you experience cravings along with a lack of energy. This in turn makes your body crave simple carbohydrate based foods to achieve the quick surge of blood sugar to provide energy and stop the cravings.
The immediate surge of blood sugar causes insulin emission which in turn removes sugar from blood and turns any excess into fat. This cycle then repeats 2-3 times daily.
This cycle is one of the major causes of diabetes, high blood pressure and extra weight.
Balanced Protein-Based Breakfast
A balanced protein based breakfast gives our body the nutrients it needs without causing a spike in blood sugar levels. It helps eliminate the dependence on simple carbohydrates through-out the day.
This in turn helps keep appetite under control, cravings for simple carbs diminished and allows the body to use it's own stored fat for energy.
What If?
Try it out! 'Top off your tank' in the morning with a healthy protein balanced breakfast. What do you have to lose?
The healthy breakfast habit is associated with better weight management and a better diet overall. Most of those who have successfully lost weight and kept if off eat breakfast nearly every day. Conversely, those who skip breakfast or eat a simple carbohydrate breakfast consume more fat, cholesterol, calories and sugar - and fewer fruits and vegetables - than those who routinely eat breakfast.
What if this could change your life forever?
